Shri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji

His Holiness Shri Shri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Jagadguru Sri Madhwaachaarya Moola Mahaa Samsthaanam, Shri Puthige Matha, Udupi, India, was anointed at the age of 12 as the 30th Pontiff. Shri Swamiji has undertaken Vedic studies for more than 12 years under the great seer Shri Vidyamanya Theertha Swamiji of Shri Palimaru Matha, Udupi.
Recently, Shri Swamiji concluded his fourth “Paryaya,” a two-year term as the head of Udupi Shri Krishna Matha. During this “Vishwa Geeta Paryaya,” from January 2024 through January 2026, he promoted the writing, reciting, and learning of the Bhagavad Gita among 10 million people worldwide, an initiative known as the “Koti Geeta Lekhana Yajna.” He also spearheaded significant offerings, including a gold cover to “Sarvajna Peetha,” a gold chariot, gold cover for the Tirtha Mantapa, the Kanakana Kindi (a window for viewing Sri Krishna), and the Bhagavad Gita written on golden leaves.
In addition to these golden efforts, he led projects to improve Krishna Matha’s surroundings, including implementing trash and sewer management, renovating the roof supports of Sri Krishna Matha with traditional wooden carvings, and reinforcing the roof structure to accommodate devotees in waiting. Throughout his two-year term, Sri Krishna Matha hosted various cultural events, discourses, debates, and symposiums, all aimed at promoting the rich Vedic knowledge of Hinduism.
The convergence of Spiritual, In addition to his multifarious activities, he is the International President of World Conference of Religions for Peace, (WCRP) New York. The Swamiji has been honored all over the world, for his service to human kind in spreading the values of spirituality. Recently, Los Angeles County Supervisor the Honorable Mike D. Antonovich honored His Holiness, by presenting a prestigious plaque in recognition of his service to the humanity. Also, the state secretary of Arizona, Janice K Brewer has declared October 8th 2005 as Sri Sugunendra Theertha Day to honor His Holiness.
Swamiji is globally respected for his progressive vision and as a champion propagator of values in spiritual and economics for mass across the world. The knowledge of the Swamiji on Vedic scriptures won the respect and praise of top international scholars & teachers. He has been a beacon of faith, hope and peace to millions in India and all over the world.
Shri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji is a such an indomitable entity that, in spite of being a descendent of a relatively less liberal, conservative lineage of Sanyasa Dharma ,he visualized the emergence of new socio cultural world order arising out of technological revolution and the vast exodus of indian population emigrating to different parts of the world. He sensed the responsibility of these traditional institutions to respond to the changing social scenario. He decided to extend his role to fulfill the religious aspirations of the Indian devout public wherever they are and did not hesitate to make some bold revolutionary decisions in his regard.
His holiness Shri Shri Sugunendra theertha swamiji is the present pontiff of Shri Puthige matha, Udupi. His spiritual influence extends far beyond the subcontinents and spans practically the entire world. To him goes the credit of spreading the Indian philosophy and Gita's teaching's acrossthe globe.
By establishing several temples and matha's in many important cities across the world, he has fullfilled and graced the spiritual needs of the migrant indian community and offered them significant opportunities to pursue their religious practices to celebrate traditional functions and to initiate their next generation to hindu fold. With his spiritual message and service to international community resonating well with many top world leaders and industrialists, it is no surprise that he was designated twice in succession as an International President Of the World Conference Of Religion for Peace (WCRP)NewYork(USA) supported by UNO.
Though our beloved swamiji is busy with international commitments, he continues to serve and guide his followers in India. He is one of the few pontiffs in Udupi to have adorned Paryaya Peeta for three times so far. It was during one of his paryaya when the Majestic Gita Bhavan, Anna Brahma Bhojanashala, Sumatheendra Theertha and Swagatha Gopuram were built in the devine vicinity of Shri Krishna matha, Udupi. He offered Navarathna Chariot to Lord Krishna during his paryaya.
Sri Sri Sushreendra Teertha Swamiji:
The junior pontiff of Puthige Matha accepted Sanyasa Ashrama on April 21, 2019. Despite being an engineering graduate, his deep devotion to Lord Sri Krishna and Mukhya Prana, combined with a strong inclination toward spirituality and firm determination, provided him the remarkable opportunity to enter Sanyasa Ashrama in the lineage of Jagadguru Sriman Madhwacharya. He was chosen by Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji after a thorough observation and examination period of eight months.
Currently, Sri Sri Sushreendra Tirtha Swamiji is deeply engaged in intense penance and studying Vedic scriptures under the guidance of his Guru and esteemed scholars. He recently supported his Guru during the Paryaya at Udupi, where he performed daily pooja services to Sri Krishna. Presently, he is in Udupi, continuing his personal studies while teaching and managing the educational institutions of Sri Puthige Matha.
